Here are just a few examples of some of the training courses we provide. These have been specifically designed for Full, Sponsored and Associate Members who want to take instructions for and/or draft Wills.

Introduction to Will Writing Course

·         One day, held four times a year

·         Basics and practicalities of becoming a professional Will writer

·         Running a successful practice

Will Writing in Practice Course

For Student members who wish to develop their practical skills and technical theoretical skills.

·         Three days, held four times a year

·         Required one month before examination

·         Expands on Introduction to Will Writing

·         Equips students for home study

·         Legal theory

·         Practical skills to assess a client's needs and circumstances required for providing an appropriate Will.

Will Instruction Taking in Practice Course

For Sponsored members who want to take instructions  for Wills only and have their documents drafted by another Institute member.

·         Two days, held four times a year

·         Required one month before examination

·         Expands on Introduction to Will Writing

·         Equips students for home study

·         Legal theory

·         Practical skills to assess a client's needs and circumstances required for providing an appropriate Will.

Taking Will Instructions Course and Examination

For Associate members who want to take instructions on behalf of an existing Institute member firm only.

·         One day, held on demand

·         Basics of taking instructions and giving advice to clients

·         One-hour written examination

·         Role play assessment

CILEx Courses

The IPW has established a unique partnership with CILEx Law School, the educational division wholly owned by the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx).

This allows IPW members to obtain effective and accessible, high-quality training in Wills, Probate and related legal matters under the law of England and Wales. To discover all of the benefits of becoming an IPW member, please click here.

Well established and widely known, CILEx Law School has over 3,000 students studying by distance learning at any one time. These include aspiring solicitors and chartered legal executives, as well as legal support staff from local authorities, government departments and commercial organisations. The School has also recently been influential in creating the new legal services apprenticeships.

Level 3 Modules

Equivalent to A-Levels.

Available at a discount of 10% to IPW members who have completed the application form. More information about the course content, structure and fees is available via the course page links below.

Please note, in addition to the fees and in order to be examined, IPW members will need to become CILEx members. These fees can be found on the CILEx website.

Examinations are held in January and June.

Law Unit

Law of Wills & Succession

Student members of the IPW who successfully complete this module will qualify for exemption from the IPW entrance examination. It will also count towards obtaining a recognised qualification in the area of law in which they practice.

 Legal Practice Units

The Practice of Law for the Elderly Client

Members of the IPW who successfully complete this module will be able to justify to insurers that they are competent to provide Lasting Powers of Attorney.

Probate Practice

On completion of the Law Unit and one Practice Unit, credits can be used towards the CILEx Level 3 Professional Diploma in Law & Practice.

Level 6 Modules

Equivalent to Honours degrees.

Available at a discount of 10% to IPW members who have completed the application form. More information about the course content, structure and fees is available via the course page links below.

Please note, in addition to the fees and in order to be examined, IPW members will need to either:

·         become CILEx members

·         pay a non-member fee. This fee can be found on the CILEx website.

Examinations are held in January and June.

Practice Unit

Probate Practice

Members of the IPW who successfully complete this module will be able to justify to insurers that they are competent to provide estate administration services.

On completion of the above Units, credits can be used towards the CILEx Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law & Practice.

Level 6 students are recommended to buy an additional text book and statute book which can be purchased at the CILEx Law School online shop.

Course Delivery

 All courses are designed to be delivered by distance learning, with support of:

     •    Induction days at a number of locations across the UK.

     •    Face-to-face revision days in London and Manchester. Delivery at alternative locations are subject to demand.
